* None of my films make a profit. Maybe I'm just bad!? You need to start with small films. Try to give them limited or national release and low marketing. Thank you! I was doing that but exclusively with dramas. I'm doing better now I have a horror and romance franchise. They seem to be easier to make money.

I'm loving playing this masterpiece For now, I would like to report 3 bugs in the new alpha version 0.1.1, they are happening only in the new alpha version: 1 - The option to create a franchise is enabled for films that are already within a franchise. 2 - The option to advance the page at the release of the film (on the METAREVIEW screen) is not working. 3 - In the choice screen (phone window) when a problem occurs in production, the "send" button is not working. I had to reopen the game. Thanks for this game! You are awesome! 10/10 The third point happened to me too! It was a text from the Producer and people weren't happy with the look of the film - could either change it or leave it as is, but couldn't confirm either option

It was related to test screening which wasn't good Edit: this bug happens with other production problems too

Gee, the moment you fix something, you break something else. Anyway, there is a new version in the main thread.
Keep it coming guys. This must be frustrating for you, but your reports are so valuable.
I decided to adress a couple of points you made so we're all on the same page regarding the future of the game.
Composers are on the "maybe feature list", cinematographers are not. We discussed this topic before I think.
It's a umbrella category for the entire overhead of your company, basically the running costs: staff salaries, rent, bills, insurance, taxes, law suites, etc. That's why it fluctuates a bit. It also get higher as you make more money (aka you company studio gets bigger)
No maximums. You might be right about The Walking Dead, but I don't want to limit you guys. If you want to make an ensemble movie a la "Love Actually" you can do that.
I tried that out, simulating an entire month at once, but it just didn't work well. The game is based on weekly turns, skipping over weeks just messes things up too much.
Jup, that's on purpose so you guys wouldn't get to frustrated. I think we should keep it that way until we figure out the right balance.
In game it mainly determines how willing people are to work with you. After the end of the game your reputation is your score (the one that goes on the scoreboard if I ever get it working right).
They do, yes. As long as the movie is still running in the theaters or the dvd wasn't released too long ago. You should release award candidates as close to awards as possible to get the most out of the bonus.
Let's see how things go. I did a lot of research for the game, trying to figure out the math behind when and how movies make money. Did you know that only 51% of all Hollywood movies actually make back their budget? It's a though business and I wanted the game to reflect that. Just making a good movie might not be enough to make money. You have to really think about genres, trends, release dates, target audience, franchises, etc. If you still feel the game is to hard in a couple of days I will start tuning some numbers.

Just a few questions, not sure if they have been answered.
1. How do you add movies to a franchise? I've been looking around and been unable to find it. When I click "new movie" on my franchise nothing happens unless I am on a preexisting film.
2. Are you able to use the same characters with the same actors throughout multiple movies in a franchise? If so how is it done? (Example: If I wanted Captain America to appear in both Avengers and his own movie in the Marvel franchise)
3. The "Adaptation" button under "New Movie" for source material of franchises is greyed out and unusable. Is this by design?

Select your franchise on the left menu, than select a specific work from that franchise in the middle menu. with the work selected click "New Movie" and choose a type (sequel, spin-off, etc.). That should take you right to the script menu.
Yes, you can. Make sure both movies are in the same franchise and that the characters name is spelled exactly the same. If both is the case the game will offer you to re-cast the last actor who played that role.
What kind source do you have selected? If it's a movie then yes, it's by design. Adapting a movie into another movie doesn't really make sense, doesn't it? For all other types (novel, comics, games, etc.) the "Adaption" option should be there, though (In these cases the "Remake" button should be greyed out).

Great work on making already 2 new versions, Admin! Thank you for taking our notes and make this game even better! Couple of more things that I noticed: 1. Would be good to scroll through list of actors with keyboard up and down keys and see changing talents on right. Now, you can see talents only if you click with a mouse. It is harder this way for a quick browsing. 2. Now that you fixed ESC button (thank you!!!), maybe it can trigger setting menu in the game. Just an idea. 3. Finances & Data is yellow color but the rest in black. Thanks for adding it, by the way! 4. No middle age/old cheap actors and actresses. No option to make low-budget movie with elder cast. 5. Michael Emerson Preston has no image. Also, is he just Michael Emerson (without Preston) if we talk about creepy guy from Lost? Or is it someone else? 6. Maybe exclude horror/thriller films made by Disney. Or you could combine Disney and 20 Century Fox under one company and then horrors and thrillers like Alien and Predator can be credited to Disney! 7. I would rename Columbia to Sony Pictures.

Sorry my bad english. The game is very very good. Thank you for this.
Some suggestions:
1) For the future, cinematographers, composers, makeup artists, arts and animation directors. They could be added little by little and, along with their skills and budget for the film, creating categories for the Oscars;
2) Festivais de cinema com filmes de estúdio e filmes independentes que poderiam ser comprado por estúdios depois do festival. Isso acontece bastante na vida real. Algo como Sundance, Cannes, Berlim, Toronto e Veneza;
3) Não se basear na reputação para o script, mas sim nas habilidades do roteirista e no tempo que ele tem para escrever;
4) Animations.
Sei que algumas dessas mudanças requerem muita mudança. Mas o jogo já está ótimo e apenas digitei tudo que pensei enquanto jogava. Mais categorias do Oscar e festivais seriam um grande sonho pra mim.

I've been playing the latest version (0.1.2). Sooo excited for tv to be introduced as well, though i know it's a long way off. It's a great groundwork!
Would it be possible to get a list of features you are hoping to add in the near future please?
* When you click new game, should be an 'X' option to get back to main menu in case you want to load instead..
* What's the difference between 'black' and 'POC' in this game? (I understand the latter is an umbrella term irl.) Lots of black actors aren't filterable by 'black' . POC should filter all non-white actors imo but we should also be able to filter by black, asian, hispanic as is.
* Really craving a 'schedule' like with HMS - so you can film later with certain talent instead of always buying out. Feels more realistic.
* Talent isn't discerning enough to me. Would love it to be harder to get the top tier directors and actors?
* When buying a franchise, the movies don't show up in the list for a while. I think it happens after the first film finishes its DVD sales. When adapting the second 'source material' (sequel) into a film, what is its relationship to the first film? Can the game tell it's a sequel, or does it just give it a boost cos in the same franchise?
* Would still love sequels to offer same writer or director straight away.
* Sequels matching previous production budget would be great.
* Would love option to sell franchises and see what other studios offer.
* What does complexity mean in script terms? How high concept? Because it has overlap with intelligence for me so would be great to have clarification.
* Would still love to be able to filter by studio on movies list - namely my own.
* An option to evaluate script points and themes (aka 'read' the script) before we purchase it from slush pile. It's a bit too much of a gamble. for me.
* Would be great to access the star meter on internet.
* Would be great to have a page of all the awards studio has won or been nominated for.
* If you hire a director, then click off and go back on movie to cast, it opens director screen and asks if you want to hire the writer who wrote as director - even if you've hired them / hired someone different.
* For drama / musicals, I'm still getting nominated for the movie in both categories!
* Character difficulty level would be great. What do you think? Not all roles are Oscar roles after all.
* I'm itching to have a deeper contract side. Offering points for less money, sequel terms etc. Not quite as indepth with as the HMS one with trailer size etc, as that became tedious, but great to negotiate on rate and bonus for film performance.
* How much does fame of the lead effect the box office?
* I'd love for marketing to be a bit more in depth, like HMS. I don't love the 'girls' 'boys' 'men' 'adults' version, if I'm really honest. It feels a bit reductive!
* Like the comment above, would love if there was an option for Cannes or Venice or TIFF, which honours lower budget / experimental films.
Overall, having a great time playing this. It runs so well! Only time it's laggy is when a new calendar year starts, which makes sense.

Franchise doesn't work well. When I create the next franchise movie, this movie doesn't appear on the franchise list

A bit more problems and suggestions: 1. Deacon Phillippe price is 0. 2. During release stage, I often forget what this film was about and have no ideas who to advertise this film to. It would be good to have some quick info about film during production without need to go to Hollywood Insider. 3. Films with no budget in each production category take 18 months to make, while films with minimum budget 100k in each category take 8 months. Why 10 months difference? 4. Director Seth MacFarlane fame is bigger than Clint Eastwood, Tim Burton and James Cameron. As a super big film fan, it is first time I hear about Seth MacFarlane. 5. I also never heard of directors Rian Johnson and Joss Whedon. Their fame as directors is bigger than Guillermo del Toro and Woody Allen. 5. Salaries for many talents need to be adjusted. You can use www.celebritytalent.net to see daily prices for each celebrity. And this price you multiply by 50 average shooting days. 6. Budget of the film gets miscalculated! I made film with screenplay (56k), director (360k), cast (1mil), production (1,5mil), print (0) and ad (0) and it shows me that Overall budget is 15mil!!! But it should be less than 3mil. Where extra 12mil come from? 7. Auto cast sometimes makes same actors for the different roles. 8. I see random directors in projects (which are in screen writing process) in Hollywood Reporter. Instead, there should be no directors as these projects don't have yet one. 9. Have option to quickly choose premade budgets for projects. You pick one of three options (low-budget, mid-budget, etc.), and all budgets are chosen for each budget category automatically instead of dragging scrolls all the time. 10. And game froze after I put into production 5 films and picked three to be released in different time and different place (limited release, direct, and international). I can still navigate in menu, but can't do anything but clicking menu's left buttons and open main windows.

Since several of you reported that bug I spent 2 hours after work trying to hunt it down. It was the most stupid bug ever. The game would recognize the movie just fine and add it to the franchise list. The problem was that the screen wouldn't update, because the screen would only update if you selected an item from the franchise list. If you only owned one franchise that was always the selected item, so the screen would never update. Because you never selected a new item. That's why each of you reported the movies finally showing up at a different time. It actually had nothing to do with how far the movie was in it's production but if you had selected another franchise. Anyway... that's fixed now. Positive side effect that I found another bug related to ai movies and franchises while trying to figure this out.
I'm back to work, but I still want to have a new version for you guys by the end of the week, so keep posting the bugs you find. Even if I don't react to your posts right away you can be 100% that I read them.
Paul, bro, game starts in 2017, when Rian Johnson directed the latest Star Wars movie. He was the most talked about director of 2017.
