I have sunk a lot of hours into this game so far and really enjoy it -- there's depth, replayability and real variety, which will only be complimented by the television side when available.
I think one element where the game could be improved is new talent in terms of writing and directing, especially as the game world can get a little stale as the game goes on.
This element is available with the actors with the open casting call, but I would really love a more fleshed out version for writers and directors.
What I would propose is:
* Hire a 'Head of Development' for your company (different levels of skills); wouldn't need a profile for this person, but just a base cost (i.e. the cheapest/ worst is 50k whereas the best is 500k a month).
* The Head of Development will have a new tab where you can view:
1. the script slush pile written by new writers. You can see *some* of the skills of these new writers, and you could choose to hire them for your project based off these -- an element of gamble, because you can't see all of their attributes. BUT they might just be the next Sorkin. Hiring them would create an ingame profile for them going forward, so they'd be available to be hired by any studio.
2. the short film submission. Similar to the above, you can see *some* of the skills of the directors, and you could choose to hire them for your next project -- again, a gamble. Hiring them would create an ingame profile for them going forward, so they'd be available to be hired by any studio.
I think this would be really fun. I tend to start out as a smaller company with not a lot of money -- thinking A24 when it started. I would love to discover new talent via the game and take a risk -- hiring them for my weird low budget horror film that might launch their career.
This isn't an idea I've considered deeply so I'm sure lots of elements could be improved, but I think this is a great starting point for introducing new writing and directing talent into the game and keeping things fresh. I personally don't like hiring the 'big directors' for every project because it gets a little stale, but finding the new face of horror might be fun (like Ari Aster).
I wouldn't personally mind that this talent doesn't have a face picture by default (though we could have option to add one!)
