After playing a lot of Showtime! and Hollywood Movie Studio, I can say that I have attempted on many occasions a Marvel Cinematic Universe run where I have attempted to recreate the MCU and beyond.
Has anyone else ever tried to do such a thing in their time with movie simulations?

Unfortunately in other games it was impossible to create something like the MCU.

And in this one, it will be possible

Unfortunately in other games it was impossible to create something like the MCU. In Showtime! it was fucking hilarious to have all these movie series going but the game would never understand that they were part of a franchise, so like one playthrough I had like 7 Doctor Strange movies but they would all fluctuate in box office earnings - so like Doctor Strange VI would gross 609 million dollars then VII would gross 171 million dollars even after a big ensemble film starring Benedict.
It would track the actor's hype, but not the hype of the overall franchise. It made for frustrating result tracking, hahahah

Film Studio Tycoon will definitely track franchise popularity, although it's of course still possible for a movie to tank, even if it's part of a popular frnachise.

So what would push a film towards its destiny as a box office failure, in the game? Release date? Star appeal? Over-saturation of the market? Because Showtime! ran on an RNG-type box office draws but would allow a big-budgeted film to break the ~500 million mark but if you didn't get the results you liked, you could just simply reload your save to get a better yield.

There's a ton of factors that determines the success of a movie. The Script and how you balance it, you movies themes, the skill of the people involved (writer, director, actors) and how well they are suited for the type of movie you're making, the budget and how you distribute it, your marketing budget and focus. Every decision you can make about your movie will influence ratings, award chances and box office. I would like to add some kind of market saturation mechanic and market trends as well. I didn't have that in the first version, but I don't think it would be that hard to code.

I didn't have that in the first version, but I don't think it would be that hard to code. Market saturation would add a whole new challenge in establishing a massive cinematic universe, much like in real life. Because you don't want to have a bomb in the middle of trying to keep up a billion dollar franchise, especially with there being so, so many features in the franchise. Would be something to consider in the future and would love to see it.
But with that being said, how much does budget influence a feature's rating - like could a low budget (~25-50 million dollar) film still have the ratings to par up with a ~100-250 million dollar film?

Ratings are not as heavily influenced by budget as box office, but movies of certain genres take a big quality malus if your budget is not high enough in certain departments. Fantasy and Science Fiction movies demand a bigger special effects budget, Historical movies need money for sets and costumes, action movies need a good stunt team... you get the idea. But yeah, if you're smart about it, you can make a very successful movie on a limited budget, while dumping a a heap of money on a shitty movie won't necessarily make it better.

Hi. I reshifted my Focus and am now working on my adaptation of the Marvel Universe. For that purpose I made a List of Characters and Teams I like and am working through them. My process is the following:
I. pick a character at Random. Why Random? Makes it more fun.
2. I go to their wikiapage and check their appearances, one by one. Any Multi-Issue Arc, or Event, will be noted, on a speadsheet,as a possible Movie.
3. I also register, on the same spreadsheet, the important events for that Character, such as First Appearances, Joining & Leaving Teams, Deaths & Rebirths, Marriages and such.
4. Also registered will be the Alternate Versions, Clones, Evils Twins etc., that could show up. These would be (if I create the movie that includes those characters) with the same name, as the original-character, with a Note in the spreadsheet that it is not the original.
Now, for example, random decided the first Character to register is Armor from the X-Men. I got 76 possible Movies out of that character. Like I said, I won't be creating all 76 in-game. But she is included in 4 Events, that I registered as a Series-Starter, and those will be the ones I create. Once I finish the Spreadsheet, I can share it, if anybody is interested.
I will also do the same for DC-Comics, Image Comics and various Indy-Comics. Also got Plans to create the Stephen King connected Universe.
Let me know if anybody wants/needs the spreadsheet, once finished.

I don't know much about the marvel or dc comics, but I'm aware that they are crazy popular, so they definitely need to show up in the game. I could put it into the database myself if you provide me the information. What I need is something like a "basic template" for each major character, that includes the relevant topics/themes and the major supporting cast surrounding this specific character (including their ages and importance).

I was planning on doing so anyway. It will take a while to finish, but until you finish the game it will take some time too, I guess. I will add it to the database myself, so you can concentrate on other things, unless you prefer to put it in yourself.
