The start date is hard coded to 2017 at the moment, but that something I could change with a bit of effort. The only issue is the database. I don't know enough about the history of film to make a big enough historical database. Couldn’t other people make the database? I play a wrestling sim called TEW and people make historical mods and put them on the forum for people to download. Loving the game by the way!

on the tv shows feature, will we be able to have characters more loved by the public, which can result in a fall in the popularity of the tv show if they leave?

So just throwing out an idea, no idea how viable it'd be but I figured this is the place to pitch anything . I'm not sure what it'd be called, so for now I'll just call it volatility. It'd be used in the database like a slider from 0-100 or even just multiple named options, like friendly, reserved, anti-social,antagonist. And just based off of those the character would have a higher or lower chance of causing delays or creating/breaking friendships and connections. The only thing that made me think about this is for people in the database like Nic Cage or people not in the database like Lindsay Lohan.

A little preview of the feature I'm currently working on. The UI for the streaming network feature. I wanted to have that done before I start working on TV Shows.

How will the streaming service work? I'm intrigued.
Is it just for our own content?
Do we pay an upkeep fee?
Can we make streaming service exclusive films?
How does that effect dvd sales?

It's more endgame stuff. Setting up a streaming service is going to be pretty expensiv with a big upfront cost to set up the technical requirements. After that you build up your content library. The more content you have the more subscribers you get, but of course very popular movies/shows are going to attract more customers. Popularity will go down over time (because most people who are interested will have seen it already), but might go back up if a new movie in the same franchise is released or a new season of a show comes out (because people are catching up on the older stuff). Other events might boost popularity as well. For example: when a popular actor dies, the movies they have been in will be watched more. It's still important to offer fresh content on a regular basis to keep subscriptions up.
You can buy other studios movies (and later shows) as well. Not all of them are for sale all the time, though. The price depends on the popularity of the movie, the contract length(1, 3 or 5 years, but you can extend the contract if you want to keep it longer), and wether you want exclusive rights (only your network can show that content) and global rights (show it worldwide or only to your us subscribers). For your own content you will always have exclusive and global rights (although you can sell them to make money, but that will bring down viewer numbers) for an unlimited time.
Yes, and it's not going to be cheap. You can raise the price, but if it gets to high you will loose subscriptions.
That's the plan. Same for tv shows.
The content will only be added once the dvd sales are below a certain point, so not at all.

I'm sorry to be bothering you about TV shows, but I loved your game. But, when we produce one, will we have access to your weekly audience? Or are we just going to produce and receive $$$ from the broadcaster who buys the script?

All sounds great! Like we have a 'straight to DVD option' will we have a 'straight to streaming service' option?
I take it the streaming service won't be in any update soon? Just cos UI looks quite far down!! But I imagine it'll take a fair bit of programming.
It'd be great to have a 'brand', i.e. we can look which markets are subscribing the most and cater to them and / or try and attract additional markets.
Like, we have lots of content that appeal to children, but not much that apppeals to adult men. Do we keep running with the children market or diversify.
If that makes sense.

I just had two questions about the streaming service 1: Not that important but will you be able to like name you streaming service or will it just say network 2: Will rival studios like Disney have their own streaming service like Disney+ etc.

The coding is about 75% done. I would like to have the update out this weekend, because that's when my vacation ends. But as always no guarantees.
Yes! "Network" is just a placeholder.
The streaming rights, yes. (Although buying and selling franchises is the next feature I want to add).
That feature is still on the drawing board, so nothing is set in stone. But at the moment the plan is that you can see the audience per episode of a season.
